YouTube Launches Paid Channels

Late last week YouTube finally launched the much rumoured paid channels partnering with 50 of the content creators that are a part of their partner program.

There are 54 channels as part of the pilot launch that charge viewers a monthly subscription for unlimted access to content on their channel. YouTube channels part of the paid subscription pilot include: Sesame Street, UFC and National Geographic Kids.

This continues the shift in previous thinking that the inernet should be free, and instead, quality online content (news, magazines, videos) should be, and can be, paid for by consumers. This is a rapid shift that is making it more imporant to create quality online video content as digital video becomes more and more a commercial delivery system rather than just a place for funny videos of cats and people doing embarrasing things.

Check out the paid YouTube channels here - and read YouTube's blog post announcing paid channel subscriptions here -

Branded Video Content | Splendour in the Grass

Branded Video Content| Telstra's Future Technology Vision

Here's a recent piece of online branded video content by Telstra giving a snapshot of their vision for how we will use and interact with technology in the future.

One thing is for sure that with more seamless technological interactions (and faster internet and mobile internet speeds) will come a need for more rich content. Yes there's going to be a need for a l lot of video content, but also images, diagrams, interactive interfaces and the list goes on. After all we'll all need a lot of interesting and cool things to go on our Minority Report-type screens at home and while we shop.
